Children’s Author and Storyteller at Hayling Carnival

Sandra Horn, the award winning author of picture books and early readers will be at the Hayling Island Carnival on Saturday August 4th.

Her books include Tattybogle, The Tattybogle Tree, Nobody, Him and Me, Babushka, Shadow Hog and The Hob and the Miss Minkin series. Tattybogle and Babushka have been turned into successful musicals for schools by Starshine Music Ltd.

Sandra will hold a storytelling session featuring Scarecrow characters Tattybogle and Essie Clucket which continues the Scarecrow theme started in the week preceding the Carnival by the Hayling Island Scarecrow Festival. She will also be reading extracts from her latest Scarecrow book and will be signing copies of her books at The Hayling Island Bookshop stall on the Carnival Field.

Tattybogle is a Scarecrow whose head is full of straw and cheerful thoughts, The Tattybogle Tree, tells the story of a tree who was once a scarecrow and makes friends with Essie Clucket, a handsome lady scarecrow. Tattybogle was short listed for the Smarties Award, the Maschler Award and the Carnegie/Kate Greenaway Medal.

Sandra brings the books to life for the children by using pictures, songs, objects and anecdotes about how her stories came to be written.

The free storytelling session will start soon after 4pm at the Carnival Field on Hayling Island seafront and is suitable for young people ages 3 to 8 years. Life sized figures of Tattybogle and Essie Clucket, the lady Scarecrow will also be in attendance!
