Scarecrow Festival Winners to be Announced at Hayling Carnival

- Wed 1st Aug 2007

The judges of the first Hayling Island Scarecrow Festival had some difficult choices to make when they met to decide the winners in each Category.

The three invited judges met in bright sunshine on Saturday 28th at the Sinah Warren Hotel, Ferry Road and were briefed about the Festival before they took the “Scarecrow Trail”.

Just after the picture was taken they were driven round the Island and saw every one of the Registered Scarecrows on show in the six Categories. To help them in their deliberations, all the Scarecrows had been photographed in the morning by a team of volunteers so that the Judges could see them all again on a laptop when they had completed their tour. On their return to Sinah Warren, they conferred and then advised the Scarecrow Committee of their choices for the winners in each of the three Categories.

The Category Winners will be announced by the Category Sponsors or their representatives at 2.30 on the Carnival Stage at the Hayling Island Carnival on Saturday 4th August. This is the confirmed time for the Scarecrow Award presentations following a change to the programme timing.

The Category Sponsors this year were

Most Humourous – Hayling Seaside Railway
Most Topical - The Terracotta Pot Shop
Best Ecological Theme - Cockle Warren Cottage Hotel
Best Engineered - Stoke Fruit Farm
Most Homely - The Contemporary Home
Hayling’s B.E.S.T. (Business, Environment, Social, Transport) - Hayling MTI

Overall Sponsors of the 2007 Festival were The Hayling Island Bookshop with additional contributions by The Lions Club and Havant Borough Council.
