Local Man wins coveted Gold Medal
- Tue 7th Aug 2007
I am delighted to report that Jack Shotton was awarded a gold medal in this year's International Mathemematics Olympiad held in Saigon.
93 countries sent teams of their best young mathematicians and there were over 500 participants this year.
The trip this year for the UK team included attending training camps in Sydney and Cairns where the team were able to attend an opera at Sydney Opera House and a trip to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
This is the third year that Jack has been chosen to represent the UK, winning a bronze medal in his first and a silver last year.
Jack will go to Trinity College Cambridge in October to study Mathematics
(Jack aged 18, is the son of the well known local resident, Dave Shotton)
