GIGS ON THE GREEN

Music and entertainment at Eastoke Corner. Another MTI project
The Concept: Utilising the space at Eastoke Corner, presently grass, passage way path, two dedicated benches and some Shrubs, as an area for a “Bandstand” on Bank Holidays and Sunday afternoons during the summer.
To become a host site for the free enjoyment of music of all types, for example local groups, brass bands, jazz, folk, rock, blues etc.
It is hoped that a precedent can be set and it will become a regular and well attended event each week, bringing much needed bodies to Eastoke Corner to boost the business economy there and give pleasure to visitors and locals.
The Practicalities: Some groups will need electricity; the owner of Roy’s Bazaar has agreed to supply it from his premises.
It may rain; Mrs. Barbra Gardner has a large Gazebo to cover the equipment
People may want to sit down; we can hire or buy deck chairs.
Litter may be a problem, the committee may help there.
Bands will have to be found, booked, paid and refreshed. The sub committee, to be formed, will handle these items.
The Police will be informed; the Community Police may be a vital presence.
Noise could be a nuisance; this must be kept to a legal level.
Action plan: Sarah Snowdon and Tony Lee are going to arrange a site meeting soon with Jeff Crate and other relevant council officers, councillors and Dale Norman, who is heading the project.
Acting on advice from H.B.C. a sub committee will be formed and the project will advance as speedily as possible, to get at least one advertised/ planned/orchestrated gig on the green this year.
It is hoped this will be met with the approval by most and we can continue the project next year with funding for a real Bandstand, not just a virtual one, somewhere on Hayling.
