College proposes foundation status

The Hayling College, this week have contacted staff and parents about a proposal to change the college into a foundation school, this means taking control away from the local authority and placing it into the hands of the schools governing body.


A quote from a letter home to parents states "Becoming a foundation school will remove the Hayling College from the control of the local authority and place that control in the hands of the governing body, which, if it continues to be dominated by residents of Hayling Island, will operate fully in the interests of the islands needs. Thus the chief reason why a change of status is appropriate for the college is that it takes forward the development of the institution towards greater direct accountability to the local community and ensure decisions are made at a very local level"

If the proposal is successful, the college will become the second foundation school on the island.

"Informal surgeries" are to be held with members of the governing body for questions and individual views, these will take place in the main hall at the college dates are;
6th November 5pm
8th November 4pm
12th November 6pm
13th November 7pm

A decision whether to proceed or not will happen on 19th November.
