Hayling 10 road race cancelled.

Havant Athletic Club have cancelled this years popular 10 mile race, normally run on the last Sunday in November, around Haylings roads.

Rumours had been circulating that the road race had been cancelled as a result of Hampshire Police wanting to charge for marshalling the event around Hayling's roads. We do however now know that the free provision of six officers to cover problematic areas of the event was agreed at a meeting between event organiser Mr Goater and Fareham Police's Operation Planning and Roads Plicing departments.

It was agreed at the time that the remainder of the route could be safely controlled by road closures, marshals and stewards arranged by the organiser.

Despite the reports of problems obtaining policing for the event being false, it does seem that the event is still sadly cancelled for at least this year. A sad day for the runners, the charities involved and many Islanders who enjoyed the spectacle.
