Keep houses secure despite the sun being out
- Sat 22nd Jun 2002
Local Police are re-iterating their annual warning to homeowners about making sure their houses are secure during the summer months...Detective Sergeant Kevin Dennis said: “Opportunist thieves often strike during the better weather when homeowners have left windows or doors open even at night. We would urge people to continue to shut windows and doors when they are away from the house and also to be aware of open windows if they are just in their gardens”
“Sometimes a hand through an open widow is all it takes to remove items of value. Try and keep radios, purses and handbags out of reach.”
The advice from police is:
- Lock doors and windows if you are out or in the garden.
- Keep valuables out of sight of windows or glass doors.
- At night take keys out of locked doors.
Police would also advise that homeowners purchase a post-coding pen. This can be used to write your postcode on electrical items in permanent ink. If stolen property is recovered it is much easier to who it belongs to if it has been post-coded.
