WELCOME US BACK AT THE BRITISH LEGION - 13th JULY
We're on our way again, for the 17th time! We are looking forward to several days of (we hope) trouble-free cycling in the countryside of northern France, with a total of 160 riders, 50 new to the event, ably supported by a 25-strong support crew. For old-stagers, there are about 70 miles of new and smaller roads. These are improvements on the route taken last year, following the change of ferry company to P&O Portsmouth and therefore arrival and destination ports. We also have the added excitement of our encounter with Le Tour de France in Rouen. Our lunchstop in Courcelles-sur-Seine on the Thursday is also on the route of Le Tour the next day, so we will see all the preparations.
Another special feature of this year's ride is that some rider out there has already been pledged our ½ millionth pound! This is the amount accumulated by rider sponsorship for charities over the years of the ride and we feel it is a great achievement for a local fundraising event like ours.So why not come along to the Royal British Legion Club on Hayling Island to welcome us back after our days on the road! We should arrive on the Island at some time after 2.30pm on Saturday, 13th July, reaching the Legion after 3pm, following a tour of the Island. We hope that motorists will forgive us, especially as we are returning on a Saturday for the first time.
LEAVING NIGHTS AT THE HAYLING BILLY
If you can't see us in at the Welcome Back reception, then you have the opportunity to see the riders leave for their journey at the Hayling Billy on Sunday 7th, Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July. Riders will be assembling there, with all their support crew, from about 6.30 onwards, leaving at about 7.30 pm, on either 5, 4 or 2-day rides.
