Officers call time on underage drinking

Police in the Havant area tested local licensees in an operation to tackle underage drinking on Friday, December 7.
Officers conducted the test purchase operation using two underage girls to see if they would be served with alcohol. The youngsters were served at three out of seven premises targeted.
Sergeant Roy Jennings of the Central OCU Community Safety Unit said: “This is an ongoing operation and another test purchase operation could be carried out at any time. This operation serves as a timely reminder to licensees and off-licence owners that they need to operate their businesses responsibly and check the ID of young customers.”
The premises that failed the test purchase operation, and received a fixed penalty notice, were:
1. Costcutters, Milton Road, Waterlooville
2. Red Lion, Havant Road, Waterlooville
3. Inn On The Beach, Hayling Island
The premises that passed the test purchase operation were:
1. Ellys Wine Shop, Greywell, Leigh Park
2. Evesee, Frogmore Lane, Lovedean
3. Lilly Sugars, Hayling Island
4. Tesco, Solent Road, Havant
