Bembridge Drive murder trial latest
- Wed 2nd Jan 2008
A man murdered a teenager by stabbing him straight through the heart, a court heard.
Wayne Lee plunged an eight-inch knife into Zak Davis's chest during a fight at Lee's flat, it is alleged.
Lee had been out celebrating his 19th birthday, the court was told.
A jury at Winchester Crown Court heard that Lee, 36, attacked Mr Davis in the early hours of April 29, last year.
Prosecutors say that Lee also stabbed Mr Davis's eldest sister, Vicky Lawrance, and her husband Adam Lawrance during a brawl at Bembridge Drive in Hayling Island.
Prosecutor Timothy Mousley QC told the court paramedics had rushed to the scene to find Mr Davis already dead, lying in a pool of blood outside Lee's front door.
Opening the case this afternoon, Mr Mousley did not immediately say what had caused the brawl, but the court heard that both Lee and Mr Davis had been drinking at a snooker club earlier that evening.
Mr Mousley said: 'The paramedics did what they could. They could not detect a pulse and despite attempts to resuscitate him could not revive him.
'He had suffered a single stab wound to the chest which had penetrated his heart.'
The court heard that Mrs Lawrance, 31, had also been stabbed and slashed by Lee, and the jury was told that Mr Lawrance had been stabbed twice by Lee.
Mr Mousley told the court that when police arrived at the scene they found Lee lying on the floor, still alive but only just.
Describing the extent of the injuries he said: 'The defendant was in a bad way.
'He was lying on the carpet, he had been unconscious.
'The paramedics could see that he had an obvious head injury to the right side of the head to the eye, there was swelling and bruising also.
'He was bleeding from the head injury. He was conscious but not talking.
'His injuries were caused by a sixth person in the flat at the time, Zak Davis's cousin.
'After the defendant had stabbed Zak and the others the cousin set about the defendant with fists and inflicted the injuries.'
Lee, of Bembridge Drive, Hayling Island, denies murdering Zak Davis and two counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on Adam and Vicky Lawrance.
