Friendship club for older people needs volunteers
- Tue 15th Jan 2008
Volunteers from the Hayling Island branch of Brendoncare Club Hampshire, a charity which runs a popular friendship club for older people, took time out from an exercise session to show people what fun they have and plea for more members and volunteers to help ensure the club’s continued success.
The Hayling Island Spring Club meets on alternate Tuesdays from 2 - 4pm at the South Hayling United Reformed Church, Hollow Lane, Hayling Island. Club members enjoy a wide range of activities, guest speakers and trips. The activity for this meeting was an exercise session organised by Vitalyz who specialise in promoting physical activity for older people and/or less able communities.
Having worked tirelessly since the club opened, the volunteers need additional support to respond to the demands of new members wanting to join. Brendoncare Club Hampshire Assistant Branch Manager, Jill Brookes, said: “This club gives older people in Hayling Island a wonderful opportunity to meet with others and to enjoy spending time together - for some, it’s the only trip out they have every fortnight. Many rely on the transport provided by Club Hampshire in order to attend the club. Volunteers need only give two or three hours each fortnight, and it really is so rewarding. We would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in helping out.”
Please call Edwin Ingleton on 01962 877772, or email eingleton@brendoncare.org.uk for more information on joining the club as a member or a volunteer.
Tony Duke, Training Consultant for Vitalyz, said: "The club members evidently benefit from the range of activities and the volunteers are vital to the club’s success."
Brendoncare Club Hampshire is a Winchester-based charity which provides friendship, daycare and support services for older people across the county.
