Valuables in vehicles

As the summer approaches the car parks on Hayling are naturally going to get busier. I would like to take this opportunity to remind people not to leave valuables of any kind in their vehicles.

Sat Nav systems on display are an example of the sort of items that encourage thieves to just smash and grab – even leaving the cradle behind lets opportunistic thieves know there may be a Sat Nav hidden under the seat.

My advice to residents and visitors to the island would be to remove all items when leaving your vehicle, to avoid the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Advice to pet owners

Police often get called by concerned members of the public when they see pets left in vehicles, especially in the summer months.

I would urge residents and visitors to Hayling Island never to leave pets in vehicles that have no ventilation or water for them to drink to cool down.
