2008 Hayling Island Scarecrow Festival Update

Entry Forms are now available for download from the Festival website www.haylingscarecrows.co.uk. The Closing Date for Entries is July 5th.

Just to remind you, this year’s Categories for Judging are Traditional, Historical, Comical, Green, Topical, Tableau, There will also be an overall “Best in Show” Award.

Remember if you want to make a Scarecrow but have nowhere suitable to display it then use the “Host a Scarecrow” service – and if you have a great place to show a Scarecrow for someone else please let us know as well. You can call in or phone The Hayling Island Bookshop.

There has been a huge expression of interest in this year’s Festival from Islanders and early indications are that this years Festival could be one of the biggest in the South of England.

Overall 2008 Festival Sponsors are the Hayling Island Bookshop and Hayling’s BEST MTI, Hayling Hardware are sponsoring the Scarecrow Making Information Event to be held on June 14th and aims to help budding Scarecrow builders learn the tricks of the trade. It will be in the United Reform Church Small Hall, to book a place call 02392 358010 - admission free.

Other key sponsors and supporters including Hayling Holiday Park who are sponsoring the Best in Show category and Stoke Fruit Farm – once again providing straw - will also be announced in due course.

The objectives of the Festival are the same as last year – to be an activity that involves all sections of the Hayling Island Community, to stimulate tourism onto the Island and to be fun!
