6. Topics for discussion
6.1. Community Board Report
A presentation had been made on the subject of Sea Defences
for North Hayling. The Environment Agency had slides to show their plans, but it was limited to finances available. More defences were proposed, but there seemed little prospect of any funding.
With the Agents changing every two years it promoted an ongoing recipe for doing nothing. The Northney marshes were a crucial part of the defences.
A new suggestion was of incorporating a sea wall round Hayling Walk.
Colin to write again to the Flood Defence Committee.
6.2. M T I
The Scarecrow Festival was progressing well.
Launch of the Stocks at Eastoke Corner on target
Playing on the Plaza very successful
6.3. Rose in June
After the arson attack on the Barn, it was difficult to know where we stand at the present.
Paul will continue to pursue vigorously any opportunities for
rebuilding or restoring the barn, together with the objection to change of use and retention of the site for community use, rather than more unneeded housing, at this strategic location.
6.4. Beachlands Masterplan
Some parts of the plan are feasible, particularly those for the Ferry Point. At this stage these plans are just a concept of what can be done and the plan shows developments in other regions.
There is an omission in that nothing is planned for east of Eastoke Corner and this needs to be rectified.
6.5. Town Council Campaign
On hold for the present. Paul is monitoring Andover who are a 3rd of the way through their campaign.
6.6. Sports Centre Makeover
A letter of thanks was sent from Business in the Community and
Jackie at Jobsite.
7. Correspondence
Pharmacy Reply to letter with an unbiased opinion on the suitability
of both applicants, but with a recommendation for a pharmacy at Eastoke.
Village Green Maintenance by HBC
Police Authority £20 donation to HIRA in recognition of survey.
A O B Dave Turvey queried boundaries of McArthy & Stone.
Bruce will provide him with plans so that he can check this out.
Tony raised the question of finding a site at West Town for events.
The meeting closed at 9.30. BMG 17.6.08
