Scarecrow Entries: The Final Count

- Wed 16th Jul 2008

We are please to report that this year’s Festival will be three times bigger than the inaugural Festival in 2007!

A total of 246 entries have been received from 111 businesses and organisations and 135 residents and schools.

These include 64 tableaux entries which we estimate will each have an average of three scarecrow figures on display. Thus in total there will be in excess of 350 figures in this year’s Festival. Don't worry if you missed the deadline you can still build and show Scarecrows but they won't be listed in the Trail Sheet or in the Judging.

The Trail Sheets have gone to the printers ready for issue to the nine pick up points on Saturday 26th and the judge’s routes are being planned, the photography team are ready and the Awards are being engraved in readiness for the Awards ceremony on Monday 2nd at The Carnival Field.

The new Festival Postcards and “Limited Edition” Scarecrow Mugs are already on sale and the Press Releases will be going out to the TV and Radio this weekend.

Entrants are reminded to have their Scarecrows on display no later that 10am on Saturday 26th July for judging and photography. The Festival lasts two weeks so there should be plenty of time to take the Spot the Scarecrow Trail at a safe and leisurely pace.

There will be Scarecrow Cream Teas available from 11am to 4pm at 24 Manor Way on Sunday 27th July and of course The Mangled Wurzels are the special guests of Playing on The Plaza on Sunday 27th at Eastoke Corner from 3pm to 5pm

With 350 Scarecrows and our great Island Carnival still running after 55 years we should be in for a real treat this summer.
