Dirt jump dream becomes reality.
- Sat 19th Jul 2008
At last, work has commenced on constructing the Billy trail dirt track & jumps today with the arrival of 80 tons of topsoil (generously donated by Mick Balch & Steve Kew from "Lift & Shift Ltd),loaded & transported to site free of charge by Island business George Atkins Plant hire Ltd.
This much awaited project has finally become reality for the group of lads whos idea it was, with the assistance & backing from Hampshire Constabulary,Councillor Andy Lenaghan & Havant Borough Council.
At 1000am the rain finally stopped just as the lorry arrived with the first load, and it was all hands to the pump.
Under the watchful eye of Mountain bike "Guru" Tim Hutchings & supervised by Paul Hurst (Project officer,HBC) they started humping the soil to the marked out site armed with shovels, spades, wheelbarrows etc all donated by HBC.
Several Forum members turned up to lend a hand as "banksman" to assist in the safe transportation of the soil along the start of the Billy trail to the site behind Furniss way.
There were lots of trail users who stopped off to ask what was going on, and thought it a good idea, & were quite impressed that the lads were doing something for themselves.
A good start to the first day of the summer holidays & should keep these lads busy for a while yet.
